About Me and This Blog

Christian writer and apologist C.S. Lewis said,

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else (Mere Christianity).

His point, of course, is that Christianity is not just one religion among other religions. Christianity is the key to understanding everything else and to seeing the world the way God does. That includes our own lives.

This blog is about that.

Three decades of being a pastor and teaching for five academic institutions has taught me that what Christians lack more than anything is a comprehensive, biblical worldview and a clear grasp of how to apply it in our fast-paced lives and challenging culture. So, I want to help you be equipped with a biblical worldview—the big picture of how to interpret the world and your life and to apply the Bible to both. I call it proactive apologetics because before you can defend what you believe, you need to know what you believe.

The purpose of this blog is to demonstrate creatively the application of the biblical worldview to everyday life with blogs that are short, engaging, readable, and even enjoyable.

With that in mind, I want to help you get the most out of the blog. So I have arranged all of my blogs under four main categories. The titles let you know the topics you can find in each one:

  • Christian Living, Relationships, and God’s Love.
  • Truth, Culture, and Apologetics
  • Leadership, Church, and Ministry
  • God, Jesus, and the Bible

Here are a few of the more popular blogs:

What you need to know about Aaron Rodgers, Rob Bell, and why “progressive Christianity” isn’t Christianity at all (Part 1)

Adopted by Appearance or Grace?

Jesus, the mud, and the man born blind. And why Joaquin Phoenix doesn’t get it.

These are my most-shared blogs to date:

About Me

I am the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Shallotte, NC, (and no, I didn’t misspell Charlotte) and I teach for Liberty University Online. I am the husband of Kim, dad of Kaitlyn, and the adversary of a little Maltese name Toby.

I write frequently for Christian publications. If you are a South Carolina Baptist, you may remember my column published for nine years in the Baptist Courier, “Intersections: Where Faith Meets Life.”

I am a graduate of Wingate College with a degree in communications, and I hold an M.Div. and a Ph.D. in philosophy of religion from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. I am a follower of Christ, an evangelical, and a Southern Baptist. For more on my beliefs you can review the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
